June 2020 Update

Lots of new music added to the rotation! It just keeps getting better and better! If you have ideas for songs to add, just drop us a line from the Contact page or at our Facebook page.

Not gonna kid you…if you haven’t checked out DJ Tremlo’s show “Music And Timeline History”, you are missing out! This year, he’s counting down the top songs from each month in 1960. Every show is packed with HIS picks of the best songs from that month along with outstanding trivia and fun facts. Catch the show the first and third weekends of the month on Saturdays at 9 AM and Sundays at 9 PM.

Yacht Rockin’ with Captain Hugh and The Contessa continues to break new ground every Saturday from 3 PM to 7 PM. Let’s just say the format has been tweaked just a bit to allow for even more interaction between this amazing couple as they bring you the best yacht rock this side of the seven seas!

PLUS…you can now catch the yacht Club BRUNCH on Sundays from 10 AM to 2 PM as we replay a previous show from Captain and Contessa!

Until next time!

May Update

Hey hey, we’re almost through May! Not a whole has changed with the exception of some back end things like server location. Otherwise, it’s business as usual!

Captain Hugh and The Contessa continue making waves with Yacht Rockin’ on Saturdays from 3p to 7p. In fact, we’ve added an encore presentation (kind of a Yacht Club Brunch) on Sundays from 10a to 2p. It’s a replay of Saturday’s show, just in case you missed it.

DJ Tremlo continues counting down 1960. May’s show was superb and extra long…nearly 2 hours! June’s show is in production and will air the first and third weekends of the month at 9a Saturday and 9p Sunday on each of those weekends.

Man, those guys and gals are so hard at work it makes me feel kind of lazy! Oh wait, I’m the chief engineer and bottle washer. My plate is full too! But I AM working on some ideas for special programming. We’ll see what the future holds.

Thanks for listening! GBY!

April 2020 Updates

Here we are in April…actually almost May! It’s not that we haven’t had the time to write an update, being stuck at home all this time. 🙂 To be honest, the station is really just running great! It’s one of those, “No news is good news” kind of reports!

But in reality, there are a couple of things to pass along!

  • Yacht Rockin’ with Captain Hugh and The Contessa airs Saturday’s from 3p-7p AND NOW ALSO ON SUNDAYS! Yes, if you miss it on Saturday, you can catch the replay on Sunday’s from 12p-4p. Keep an eye on our Facebook page and the Yacht Rockin’ FB page as Captain Hugh is updating the timeline as the show airs on both days. Fun stuff!
  • Music And Timeline History continues to air and will have a new episode on the first Saturday of the month at 9 AM. It will also air the same weekend on Sunday night at 9 PM. We are adding a reply weekend on the third weekend of the month as well in case you miss it the first time around.

That’s about it for now. As always, thank you for listening and sharing the station with your friends and family!

March 2020 Updates

We’ve had so many great things going on in the background here at the station! A few highlights:

  • Added literally hundreds of more songs to the rotation.
  • Removed some songs that were…well…burning us out. 🙂
  • Introduced Music And Timeline History with DJ Tremlo, a countdown show of a specific year that includes music and tons of facts and trivia. At this time, a Michigan Mix Radio exclusive!
  • Major equipment updates at the studios of the DJ’s.
  • Starting to periodically live stream some hours.

THANK YOU for supporting our little station as we endeavor to serve our Great Lake State the best way we know how!

More new music

It’s kinda funny to say “new music” when really none of it is new. I refuse to call them oldies. Let’s say…”classics”! 🙂

I added close to 150 or so songs to the library, including Phil Collins, Billy Joel, Thompson Twins, Saga, and more.

If you have ideas for more music to add, or drop, please do let us know! Thanks for listening!

February 2020 updates

What an exciting start to the year! Since our last blog update, here’s what’s happened.

  • Added literally hundreds of more songs to the library (and adding more just about every week).
  • Expanded the library for Yacht Rockin’ with Captain Hugh and The Contessa
  • Launched “At The Movies with The Contessa” so you know what’s playing on the big screens each weekend.
  • Launched “Music And Timeline History”, a music magazine show with DJ Tremlo starting in the year 1960.
  • “Dayparted” certain songs so that edgier stuff plays from 6 PM to 6 AM. This makes listening at work and in public places like cafes a little easier on the ears. 🙂

Probably the most significant update to share with you is that we moved the radio software that runs the station to a “cloud based” server. This has greatly increased the reliability of the stream as it is now located in a mega redundant data center with multiple internet connections.

Moving the server to the cloud also sets the stage for us to obtain our own music licensing so we can one day migrate from Live365 and have a LOT more flexibility.

More good things to come this Spring, Lord willing. 🙂 THANK YOU SO MUCH for your support!

Yacht Rockin’!!!

We are VERY excited to announce a new show on Michigan Mix Radio: Yacht Rockin’ with Captain Hugh and The Contessa every Saturday from 3 PM to 7 PM!

Captain Hugh and The Contessa are more than just Yacht rock fans…they actually own a yacht! I’ve been on it and it’s gorgeous! These two definitely know their yacht rock catalog and are STOKED to bring you all the songs of summer fun and sailing on the Great Lakes!

Check it out and let us know what you think!

Use the app!

It came to my attention today that the embedded player on the home page doesn’t work well on mobile devices. It cuts in and out and sometimes you have to close it and reopen it. Kind of a pain on a phone.

So if you’re listening on a phone or other mobile device, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you download the Live365 app on your devices app store (it’s free) and then listen from there. Just install the app, look for “Michigan”, and you should find us right away.

Once you’re streaming the station from the app, be sure to add us as a favorite so we’re easier to bring back on later.

Thanks for listening and thanks for your patience as we get the station rolling and tweaked!

More music, slight outage

We had a tiny outage today when the radio station computer that operates everything had to be rebooted. I try not to do that during the day, but was left with no choice this time. Thankfully, the backup autodj kicked in and though it may have jumped a song or two, we were right back up and running.

I added a BUNCH of “Yacht Rock” music to the library today. It’s not in normal rotation but is IS ready for a special program in the works. On a related note, I’ve been onboarding another on air personality so it’s more than just me sharing with you! 🙂
